New platform packages

Description:

TARA Systems is continuously extending the coverage of platforms in the consumer electronics, auto-motive and industrial market segments – initiative or and on request. This article describes the necessary procedure to support a new platform on request from semiconductor manufacturers as well as from other customers.

Solution:

Before we going to support a new platform we have a common procedure to give a reliable statement on the costs and the time schedule. This procedure ensures also to keep the high quality standards for our product. This procedure is:

1. At first we get the device specification. If needed an NDA will be signed from us.

2. After checking the specification, we get a development platform (Compiler, Debugger, HW, "Hello World"-SW example).

3. As a next step we are doing some performance tests on the target.

4. With this information we can estimate the effort and time schedule.

5. Then a new platform package can be ported, verified and released.

In most cases the semiconductor manufacturers order the platform package from TARA and provide it for free to their customers.

TARA develops also platform packages on their own initiative for important platforms in the market. In this case we charge a small development contribution to customers using this platform packages. But this is a onetime license without further costs or royalties. A licensed platform package can be used for all EmWi licenses and products within the licensees company.
