String generation with Asian Windows OS versions
Description:
Since the used Visual Basic Script in the Strings.xls template can not handle Unicode strings properly, the generation of the string constants can show problems in the character range 0x80-0xFF when using a PC with Asian (Japanese, Chinese, etc.) Windows operating systems.
Solution:
There is a solution for Windows XP for this problem. Change the system settings on your PC as follows:
1. In the Windows start menu click "Settings" and then click "Control Panel".
2. Double-click "Regional and Language Options".
3. Select the "Advanced" folder.
4. Set "Language for non-Unicode programs" to German (Germany) or English (UK).
5. Restart your computer.
6. Generate the Strings.ewu with the Excel sheet as described in the HowTo document HT-007-Excel_String_Table_Import.pdf
