With the release of the new Gaggia Accademia fully automatic coffee machine, Gaggia brings the taste and expertise of Italian coffee into the homes of their customers. The machine offers a multisensory interaction, as it can be controlled via a 5’’ touchscreen and rotary knobs. The wide full color display features an intuitive, modern and responsive user interface that was developed with TARA Systems’ Embedded Wizard.

Gaggia is a renowned manufacturer of high-end espresso machines based in Italy. They have been in business for more than 85 years and are known for their commitment to quality and innovation.

In 1938, the founder Achille Gaggia filed a patent for a revolutionary system to extract coffee with hot water pressure instead of steam and gave life to the “authentic Italian espresso with crema naturale”. For many years, the company produced professional machines for coffee shops, selling all over the world and becoming a reference brand in the field. Then, in 1977, the product portfolio was expanded to include espresso machines for home use, a business on which the company decided to focus on in recent years.

Their state-of-the-art products are inspired by their expertise, their never-ending passion for coffee, and their one-of-a-kind heritage. The company’s mission is to uplift simple coffee moments to bespoke home barista experiences, under the motto of “continuously evolving tradition“.

When Gaggia decided to incorporate a touch display into their new line of coffee machines, they turned to Embedded Wizard for help concerning the development of the graphical user interface (GUI). They needed a GUI that would be intuitive, user-friendly, and visually appealing. Additionally, it was important that the GUI was customizable for different markets, as Gaggia sells their products all over the world.

The GUI was designed with a focus on simplicity and ease of use, with intuitive touch controls and clear visual feedback and was optimized for performance and reliability, ensuring that it would run smoothly even on resource-constrained hardware.

Our distributor and partner Tecnologix supported Gaggia in implementing this project. According to their credo that they like to practice everything they sell, they are really effective in supporting customers in their projects. For Gaggia’s brand new Accademia coffee machine, Gaggia designed the user interface, experience and ergonomic flow, and Tecnologix, as Embedded Wizard experts, engineered Gaggia’s ideas and graphics into the GUI firmware.

We were very impressed with the functionalities and features of Embedded Wizard in creating a user-friendly and highly responsive GUI that met all of our requirements. With Embedded Wizard we developed a user interface for our Accademia that surpassed our expectations.
